Teaching Heal

Heal is a very simple trick to teach but here are some good tips for getting started.
  • Don’t use choke chains
  • Be calm and patient
  • Don’t walk your dog off leash until they are 100% dependable on leash. But even then you need to see if it is OK to walk them off leash in that area.
  • Teaching your dog to walk on a leash will help you in teaching your dog many other fun tricks!
  • Take all the time you need. It may take days to prefect your dog.
  • Use a leash about four to six feet long
Now here is the procedure,

  1. Get your dog to listen to you inside where there are less distractions. Maybe make her sit or lie down but do something that she knows and is good at so as not to get her upset before you even get outside. Spend as much time as you need to on this step because you need your dog to be wanting to listen to you when you get outside.
  2. Now you can go outside! All you need to do in this step is begin to walk. To begin, have your dog in the sit position by one of your legs (whatever side you want to teach them to walk on) then start to walk. They should begin to walk next to you.
  3. When Fido starts to pull on that leash simply stop walking. Say a “no” word such as “ah ah” or “no no” Get down in their face and tell them “no no” or “that is not right” just like with a little kid. Then stand there until there is no tension on the leash (meaning he stops pulling). There is no hitting, pulling on the leash, or yelling in this step.
  4. When your dog gets the hang of it begin to change directions out if the blue. Walk to the left then turn around and walk to the right. Make it a kind of game and see if you can get your dog to always go where you go.
  5. Now you can try to walk a few steps and give an easy command such as sit then walk some more and say “sit”
  6. Try to get it to where your dog will sit every time you stop. Even if you have to say it every time.
There is how to teach your dog to heal in some simple steps! Try to not stress out your dog. Even if that means only doing about two or three steps each day. But as soon as you don’t think it is fun so will your dog. So practice practice practice and keep it fun. And remember it takes time.

Fun Dog Toy Recipes

Hey there! Today I wanted to go over some fun recipe tips that you can use for any toy that is hollow and solid, (These most likely would not work if you tried to stuff it in a squeaky toy that has no fluff in it.) So here we go!

Layers
Try a simple layering. Add a very yummy treat (like bacon) on the hardest-to-get-to layer. An OK treat (like a store-bought treat) on the not-really-hard-to-get-to layer. Then some dog kibble or canned food on the easiest-to-get-to layer

Let Some Poke Out
Let a tiny bit of a pretty good treat stick out an opening so that it gets them on a great start

Chill It
Put one in the fridge for a few hours then give it to your dog. It will be a nice challenge to get to! Consider having two so one can be freezing while your dog is playing with the other. Chilling is a great way to beat the heat this summer!

Hollow toys are perfect for giving your dog a very rewarding puzzle. They will most likely enjoy it very much. I know Zena and Annabelle enjoy playing with their puzzle toys. I hope your dogs do too!

Annabelle

Hello! This time I’m going to let Annabelle tell you a bit about herself! OK so Annabelle what do you have to say?

Hey I’m Annabelle! I’m an afghan hound but I still don’t have all my big girl fur. I was in a…pet store…for a while. A while as in about 3 months. People were just afraid of how furry I was going to get in my lifetime. They knew how big I would get and just said it was too much work so they took ones like the Shih Tzu and such.
I’m a very aloof dog. My owner will call me and I just look at her and wander the other way. Hahaha! It gets on her nerves I can just tell. Just about the only time I do what she asks is when she has a treat in her hand! Ooh yes I’m a sucker for the treats!
My owners train me in French so that alpha dog Zena does not do my tricks…but to tell you the truth she told me that she’s getting the hang of the French. Really the only tricks I do are sit and lie down.
That is about all I have to say. Besides I love Busy Pawz Treats! I'm gonna go see if I can get some. Talk to you later!

Thanks Annabelle! Hey Annabelle! Get away from the treats I’ll give you some in a second.
Sorry I gotta run!
